[Residential street fairly pleasant]
[Jean wears a gray mildly dingy sweatshirt and dark baggy pants]
A1 Camera at ankle level, behind and to the left of Jean, pointing slightly downward (mostly feet in frame) Following as he walks along sidewalk
A2 Jean stops, camera continues some half a step to reveal handbill for a circus
A3 Jean bends over and picks it up
A4 Cut to shot of Jean - steep upward angle - camera drifts forward to end up looking over his shoulder at the sky Music fades in - Music cuts (Galuppi16)
A5 Camera cuts to behind Jean who is walking quickly away (camera does not move)
A6 Camera tilts down to show handbill crumpled on ground
A- Same music, but softer - fade to black
B1 Hear foot steps - crumpling paper - fade back in - see back of Jean stooped over - picking up the handbills
B2 Cut to wide angle shot from behind and across the street
B3 Cut to shot facing him, some distance away - Jean sits down cross legged as..,
B4 Cut to close up of the ground in front of him
B5 He spreads out the bill in front of him, hear coins, throws 55ยข on it, pause, other hand adds one cent
B6 Picks up the coins in fist - as opening to palm..,
[Bus stop by golf course - before noon]
B7 Cut to shot from across the street, but at bus stop - still has palm open - next to him some other guy
B8 Bus comes betwixt camera and Jean - stops - goes, Jean still there, other guy gone
B9 Cut to open palm - cut to other hand which has the handbill - which he now again crumples and throws after the bus
B0 Camera steps and pans left - walks a bit after the bus - fades black
B- (music: 'Quia apud' comes in somewhere here, continues through beginning of next section)
[Street again, less green than before]
C1 Looking downward over Jean's shoulder In frame see hands, holding little phone book which he opens and begins leafing through
C2 It is completely empty - except for one entry (Jasper le Marin 31.41.59.26), first he goes passed it, then comes back
[Phone @ Girsh - harsh light, need to see when]
C3 Close up of phone, hand picks up receiver and puts in two quarters, dials number
C4 We hear the beeps - then a busy signal | wait for it | hangs up
C5 Cut to shot right behind him (see his back square on) about half a step away - repeat call and busy
C6 Cut to shot some distance away to the side - if possible elevated -
C7 Calls again, hear phone ringing, then the music as we see Jean talking
C8 He pleads for a ride to the circus is rejected with an ashen face
C- Music goes distorted then fades, camera cuts to successively zoomed out shots from same place then fades black
[Very light, on Girsh grass, very green]
D1 Wide shot of Jean laying face down
D2 Cut to close up god's eye of hand - hand tightens to a fist - slight pound
D3 Cut to low medium shot from side as Jean rolls away to face up
D4 Shot of head - so that the head is up side down - look of determination comes and settles
D5 Camera looks up - beat - sits up - similar shot as in opening as Jean gets up and walks off - keep with the music and sky another beat or two
[Slightly more rural and stark then begining]
D6 Cut to shot of Jean walking towards the camera
D7 Cut to ankle level shot of Jean walking towards (closer than previous)
D8 Face profile (determined) -- turn to look forward (still walking all the way) fade White
[Elwood - It is significantly darker now. Almost Dusk - dusty, dirt]
[Jean has been walking for some time, looks tired and a bit sweaty.]
E1 Medium shot of Jean walking up -- approximately same angle, wide across empty field -- back to first shot, different expression on Jean's face.
E2 He looks down, camera follows in a tilt, his foot is stepping on a handbill, next to a popped baloon. He kicks it.
E3 Voice: "Tu Ment!" (subtitle: "You Lie!")
E4 Turns and begins walking away - camera cuts to shot (similar to beginning) of Jean walking away- but with the music playing.
E5 Voice: "Mais je vais les trouver!" (subtitle: "But I am going to find them!")
